Note that the number of covered individuals is less than the sum over all categories because of transitions to a higher educational level. We allow for interruptions of the school and apprenticeship spells and for continuing the spell’s duration after the interruption. After applying the criteria we extrapolate the educational degree to future spells until we observe a change in individuals’ educational status.
